Roundup: Hong Kong stocks close 0.89 pct lower

Hong Kong stocks moved down 176.74 points, or 0.89 percent, to close at 19,711.76 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 19,694.99 and 20,130.80. Turnover totaled 77.20 billion HK dollars (about 9.96 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 0.77 percent, or 65.85 points, to close at 8,439.31 points.

All of the four sub-indices lost ground. The Commerce & Industry sub-index fell the most at 1.17 percent, followed by the Properties at 1.05 percent, the Finance at 0.66 percent, the Utilities at 0.5 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, rose 0.26 percent to close at 56.5 HK dollars.

Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, lowered 1.01 percent to close at 24.45 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX shed 1.37 percent to 179.6 HK dollars.

Local developers moved down. Sun Hung Kai, one of Hong Kong's largest property developer by market value, closed at 89.8 HK dollars, down 0.27 percent. Henderson Land sank 2.38 percent to 43 HK dollars. CKH Holdings closed down 0.97 percent to 97 HK dollars.

Mainland-based financial stocks closed lower. Bank of China lost 0.32 percent to close at 3.11 HK dollars. China Construction Bank fell 0.61 percent to 4.89 HK dollars. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the nation's largest lender, dropped 1.42 percent to 4.16 HK dollars.

As for oil shares, CNOOC tumbled 3.28 percent to close at 7.07 HK dollars. China's top refiner Sinopec fell 0.94 percent to 4.2 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, dived 1.34 percent to 4.39 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals to 7.75 HK dollars) Endit
