Jordan said Monday it is in discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a new support program to the country, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Jordan's Finance Minister Omar Malhas said the Jordanian economy will witness difficult economic reforms during the upcoming period as IMF has set several conditions to start a new support program to the country.
These conditions include rectifying the income tax law among many other laws.
The minister added that the IMF conditioned that Jordan reduces the ratio of public debt as a percentage to gross domestic product to 70 percent by 2021.
He added that the country started negotiations with the IMF to change this target.
In 2012, the IMF approved a 2.06-billion U.S. dollars loan to Jordan to support the national program of economic reforms aimed at maintaining macroeconomic stability and improving fiscal and external positions, while protecting the vulnerable segments of the population and fostering stronger and more inclusive growth.
