Rocket hits clinic run by Int'l medical group in north Yemen, 3 killed

Xinhua, January 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

The international medical group Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said a rocket hit its clinic in northern Yemen on Sunday, killing three and wounded 10 others.

"A rocket landed in MSF-sponsored health center in Razeh area in northern Saada province today, killing three people and injured 10 others," the group said in a statement on its twitter account.

The statement did not reveal who is behind the rocket attack.

It was another attack on MSF health facility in the same province, which is the stronghold of Shiite Houthi fighters who are fighting Saudi-backed Internationally recognized government, after October air strikes hit a hospital run by MSF in Haydan district.

The impoverished Arab country was plunged into violence in September 2014 when the Shiite Houthi group stormed the country's capital Sanaa, driving President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi into exile.

The conflict soon turned into an all-out civil war between pro-government forces and Houthi group backed by troops loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. A Saudi-led Arab coalition later intervened, vowing to restore Hadi's legitimacy.

The almost daily air raids by the Saudi-led alliance and the ground battles have killed thousands of Yemeni civilians and forced many more to flee their homes. Endit
