Gov't building attacked by petrol bombs during protest in Kosovo

Xinhua, January 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

A dozen of petrol bombs were thrown into the government building in Kosovo on Saturday during a massive protest in local capital Pristina against the agreements reached with Belgrade in August last year in European Union-facilitated dialogue in Brussels.

Police intervened to put out the flames in the government building and used tear gas and water canons to disperse violent protesters.

Three police officers were wounded and some protesters arrested, it was reported, though not confirmed by officials.

Special police went after the protesters through the center of Pristina to disperse the protesters, which set alight garbage canons and pelted stones and petrol bombs at police officers.

The protest was called by three opposition parties Vetevendosje, AAK and NISMA which opposed the agreements that Pristina reached with Belgrade in August 2015 on the Association of Serb Municipalities and the agreement reached on border demarcation with Montenegro.

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo ruled in December that parts of the agreement on the association are unconstitutional which is used by the opposition to demand the government to step down. Enditem
