Cambodia's ruling party holds congress on 2016 strategy

Xinhua, January 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) held its 39th congress on Saturday to review the achievements last year and to set out an action plan for this year.

The two-day congress is presided over by party's president Hun Sen, who is the prime minister of Cambodia, and the party's honorary president Heng Samrin, who is the president of the National Assembly.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Samrin said last year, the party made a lot of achievements in maintaining peace, political stability, security and public order, and in developing the economy and reducing poverty.

"Our major issues at this time are the mobilization to accelerate reforms at the maximum and to tell the people about the truthfulness of our party and government," he said.

The CPP has ruled the country since 1979. Its current central committee consists of 545 members. Enditem
