World's highest salt lake receives record number of tourists in 2015

Xinhua, January 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Namtso lake, the highest altitude salt lake in the world in Lhasa, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, welcomed 776,000 international and domestic tourists in 2015, the local government of Lhasa announced on Friday.

The number of tourists increased by 31 percent compared with 2014, reaching a record high, according to local authorities.

To boost tourism development of Namtso lake, the local government has introduced five new tourism products for the scenic spot last year, and launched a coach line to connect downtown Lhasa and the lake.

Namtso lake, the world's highest at 4,722 meters, has always been a favorite destination for tourists. Endi
