Beninese banker declares candidature for presidential elections

Abdoulaye Bio Tchane, a banker and leader of Alliance of Triumphant Benin (ABT), on Thursday officially announced his candidature for Benin's forthcoming presidential elections.
"I commit to serve Benin in line with the values that I cherish; love for a well done work, humility, integrity and justice," he said when he addressed thousands of his supporters in the political capital, Porto Novo.
Born in 1952 in Benin's northwest region of Djougou, Tchane is a Beninese politician who is a banker by profession.
He previously served as Benin's finance minister, as a director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and also as the president of the West African Development Bank.
In his speech, the ABT leader emphasized on improvement of living conditions of the Beninese people through reduction of youth unemployment, improvement of women's income, development of agriculture and improvement of the business climate to encourage more national and foreign investments.
Some 4.7 million voters will go to the ballot on Feb. 28 for the first round of the presidential election to elect the successor of incumbent President Boni Yayi, whose second term ends on April 6. Enditem
