Xinhua, January 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spaniards will spend 9 percent more during this winter sales in comparison with a year ago, spending 241 euros (about 263 U.S. dollars) on average, according to data released on Monday by Cetelem, an entity that grants credits.

Spain's winter sales started on Thursday, Jan. 7, like every year after the Christmas period that finishes in Spain with the arrival of the Three Kings who give children the presents.

According to the statistics, consumers are especially interested in clothes, shoes, complements, textile and sports items during the winter sales period that will see a rise in sales when compared with a year earlier.

According to Acotex, sales will rise by 5 percent year on year to a total of 3.940 billion euros. Sales during this period represent 25 percent of the total sales of the year.

Many of the workers who were hired for the Christmas period see their contracts extended thanks to the winter sales period, and the human resource management company Adecco said that this sales period would see 80,200 new contracts more, 5 percent more than a year earlier, especially in the areas of promotion and customer service.

Stores offer aggressive discounts this year of 50 percent in the first period of sales to 60 percent and 70 percent in the second period of it, trying to attract more clients as Spanish economy recovers and consumers gain more confidence.

Stores expect big sales in clothes, shoes, complements and electronics as well as small household appliances. (1 euro = 1.09 U.S. dollars) Endit
