China moves up 2 slots in FIFA rankings

Xinhua, January 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

China has moved up to the 84th position in the latest FIFA world rankings on Thursday, maintaining a top eight place in Asia.

China ranked eighth in the continental table, followed by Qatar, which was above China and topped Group C with 18 points in the 2018 Russia World Cup qualifiers.

There are only two matches left in the World Cup qualifiers, and China will fight against the Maldives and Qatar in March. Even if it manages to beat both teams, China still has little chance to enter the last stage of the Asian Zone qualifying campaign.

Iran is the highest ranked Asian team at 43rd with South Korea and Japan 51st and 53rd respectively.

There are no changes to the top 22 FIFA rankings as Belgium maintained the top place, followed by Argentina and Spain. Endi
