Malta to host 3rd Anna Lindh Mediterranean Forum

Xinhua, January 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

The third edition of the Anna Lindh Mediterranean Forum, themed "Euro-Mediterranean Forum on Intercultural Dialogue", will be held in Malta on Oct. 24-25, 2016.

The memorandum of understanding was signed between Malta's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Anna Lindh Foundation on Wednesday afternoon.

Based in Alexandria, Egypt, the Anna Lindh Foundation is an international organisation which promotes intercultural exchanges and common projects among the civil societies of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Hatem Atallah, Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation, praised Malta's active and central role in the Anna Lindh Foundation, stating that the next session of the Mediterranean Forum could only be held in Malta in view of its pivotal role and sensitivity in Mediterranean matters.

The forum will also serve to form part of the legacy of Malta's EU Presidency in the first half of 2017, as well as serve as an opportunity to further confirm Valletta's status as the European Capital of Culture in 2018.

Malta's Foreign Minister George William Vella reiterated his strong commitment to the successful outcome of the forthcoming Mediterranean Forum to be held in Malta, which is expected to be attended by around 800 delegates.

The Foreign Minister also welcomed the close collaboration between the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Union for the Mediterranean, emphasising the importance of increasing cultural and people-to-people contacts through the implementation of projects and exchanges. Enditem
