Former NBA star Marbury suspended one game for controversial talk over refereeing

Xinhua, January 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Beijing's Stephon Marbury got a one-game suspension on Monday for controversial post-game comments on refereeing in a Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) match against arch-rival Guangdong, according to the basketball governing body's website.

Marbury, who steered Beijing to three CBA titles in the past four years, was called for a technical foul with 6:15 to go in the third quarter against Guangdong, after he "behaved in an inappropriate way" over the referee's decision, said the CBA.

The former NBA star questioned the refereeing on Weibo, a twitter-like social tool in China, and posted some netizens' comments concerning the incident.

Marbury will miss Wednesday's home game against Qingdao.

The Beijing club, placed seventh in CBA with 17-9, was also fined 20,000 yuan (about 3,000 U.S. dollars).

Marbury averaged 17.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists for Beijing this season. Endi
