Hungarian President voices worries, wishes for global peace in New Year

Xinhua, January 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Hungarian President Janos Ader voiced his concern over global uncertainties and terrorism along with his hope that 2016 would be a calm one for Europe and a successful one for Hungary.

In a television message broadcasted just after midnight on New Year's Day, Ader cited the unprecedented wave of migrants, the terrorist attacks in Paris, and the successful climate change conference to illustrate the ups and downs of the past year.

"While personally wishing one another a happy New Year, our supreme joint wish is for peace in the world," he said, noting that the past year had underlined the tremendous value of seeing our country, loved ones, and families living in security.

Ader called for an extension of the Christmas spirit of love into the New Year to combat the uncertainties, which, he said, included giving a helping hand to fellow Hungarians going through tough times and to people combating disabilities. He also called for approaching the natural environment with humility.

The guiding principles behind our actions should be understanding, readiness to help, good intentions, and humbleness, he said. Enditem
