Syrian anti-aircraft targets Lebanese helicopter

Xinhua, January 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Syrian anti-aircrafts on Thursday opened fire at a Lebanese army helicopter near the al-Kabir River on the northern border with Syria, the state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The report said the helicopter was slightly damaged, and the pilots managed to fly it back to the Qlaiaat air base.

The helicopter was on a tour roaming over the plains of Akkar when it was targeted, the report added.

Meanwhile, the Voice of Lebanon radio said that the "Syrian authorities have targeted the Lebanese military helicopter because it violated its airspace."

Investigations and contacts are underway following the unprecedented incident.
