A 39-year-old Indonesian man has been sentenced to 12 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane on Thursday for stabbing and committing robbery at one of Singapore's major CBD areas last November.
The man, Arun, stabbed and robbed Kang Tie Tie, a 37-year-old Indonesian at the Exit B of Raffles Place metro station, who had a bag containing more than 785,000 Singapore dollars (557,000 U.S. dollars) in different currencies.
Kang was an authorized courier who travelled to Singapore often to deliver and collect money from clients, according to Channel NewsAsia.
He stabbed Kang in the right waist, right hip and right upper waist. Investigations showed that Arun entered Singapore the day before the robbery and he bought the knife in the morning, hours before he committed the crime. He has pleaded guilty to the charge of armed robbery with hurt.
His sentence has been backdated to the date of the attack. Enditem
