December likely warmest year-end on record in Singapore

Xinhua, December 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

This year, in line with 1997 and 1998, is likely to be the warmest year on record, with this December possibly the warmest in history, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore on Thursday.

The mean monthly temperature and mean daily maximum temperature for the month to date is 27.8 degrees Celsius and 31.6 degrees Celsius, respectively, which is likely to exceed previous highs of 27.3 degrees Celsius in December 1997 and 31.3 degrees Celsius in December 1997 and 2002, respectively, said NEA.

At the same time, with a mean annual temperature of 28.3 degrees Celsius, this year is likely to tie with 1997 and 1998 as the warmest year on record. The high temperature in 1997 and 2015 can be attributed to the strong El Nino events, according to NEA. Enditem
