Indonesian charged with possessing terrorism-related materials in Malaysia

An Indonesian national was charged on Tuesday with possessing materials related to the Islamic State (IS) at the magistrate's court in Pontian of the state of Johor, local media reported.

It said that The 31-year-old Indonesian man was charged with having a cellphone containing 196 images and 200 video clips on the IS militant group and its acts of terrorism, according to Bernama, Malaysia's state news agency.

The accused allegedly committed the offence in Benut of Pontian at 12:05 p.m. on Dec. 1, and he now faces a maximum jail sentence of seven years or a fine, and forfeiture of the banned materials upon conviction.

No plea was recorded and no bail was offered to the accused, who was unrepresented.

The magistrate set Jan. 28, 2016 for case remention. Endit
