Mexico has won four tickets in taekwondo for Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, according to local reports on Monday.
The fourth ticket was for Itzel Manjarrez in the -49kg category, according to a report from local sports daily La Aficion.
"On Monday early morning we received the official document where the fourth ticket was granted to Mexico. Brazil was already qualified in the sixth position in this category but it had four 'wild cards' they used. Therefore, Itzel climbed some positions and won her ticket," said Juan Manuel Lopez, President of the Mexican Taekwondo Federation cited by La Aficion.
At the beginning of December, Mexico won three tickets in the Grand Prix final held in Mexico City. The tickets were won by Cesar Rodriguez (-58kg), Saul Gutierrez (-68kg) and Maria Espinoza (+67kg).
With the fourth ticket, it will not be necessary for Mexico to attend the qualifying tournament next March, to be held in the Mexican central city of Aguascalientes.
Despite this, Lopez said the four Mexican athletes to attend Rio will be decided after an internal evaluation to be held in March. Endi
