Gunmen shot dead Somali military Commander Col. Anshur Araye in an early raid on Saturday, a government official confirmed.

The Somali Army Commander was killed in Dharkenlay district in the capital Mogadishu by gunmen believed to be Al-Shabaab militants, said Ahmed Meyro Mo'aw, the District Commissioner of Dharkenlay in Benadir Region. (Somalia-Politics)

KABUL -- Afghan army found and defused three landmines near the capital city of Kabul, the Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

"The personnel of Afghan National Army's Kabul 111 Division recovered and defused three anti-vehicle mines in two villages of Qara Bagh district in Kabul province," it said in a statement. (Afghanistan-Mine)

ISLAMABAD -- At least two militants were killed in a shootout with security forces in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of Kurram Agency on Saturday, local media reported.

Urdu TV channel Dawn News said the militants attacked a check post of the security forces with sophisticated weapons, but the troops repulsed the attack in which two of them got killed, five injured and others fled the scene. (Paksitan-Attack)

JERUSALEM -- A Palestinian man was killed on Saturday after allegedly trying to stab an Israeli policeman in Jerusalem, the Israeli police said.
