1st LD: 1 killed, 37 injured after woman drives car into crowd at Las Vegas Strip

Xinhua, December 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

One person was killed and 37 others were injured Sunday night when a car ran into pedestrians on the crowded Las Vegas Strip.

The famous tourist attraction was blocked after the accident, which happened in front of the Planet Hollywood hotel, according to local media reports.

At least seven of the injured were in critical condition, local police said.

The car ran into the crowd on the sidewalk. The driver, an African-American woman, had been taken into custody and was undergoing drug and alcohol tests, police said, adding that she had a three-year-old in the car during the incident.

The woman, in her 20s, had intentionally mounted the curb three times during the incident, police said. But the authorities ruled out it was an act of terrorism, merely stressing it was an intentional one.

The incident occurred when Las Vegas hosted the popular Miss Universe pageant, which saw the crowning of an actress and model from the Philippines. Endi
