Toronto Raptors were unable to overcome a third-quarter ejection of All-Star Kyle Lowry, falling to Sacramento Kings 104-94 in Sunday night NBA action.
At the 7:22 mark of the third quarter, Lowry committed an offensive foul against Kings forward DeMarcus Cousins. Lowry disputed the call with official Scott Wall and subsequently picked up two consecutive technical fouls, resulting in an automatic ejection from the game.
"I was just trying to explain myself and figure out why I got the first one and I just happened to be there for too long," said Lowry following the game. "At the end of the day it's my fault and I've got to have better composure and have responsibility for my actions."
Lowry's two technical fouls gives him seven on the season, tying him with Clippers forward Blake Griffin for the league lead.
Lowry's ejection is the fourth ejection all season, and the only one committed by a non-Clippers player. Griffin leads the league in ejections with two and teammate DeAndre Jordan has one.
Raptors head coach Dwane Casey was also not pleased with the ejection, but prefers his players to walk away from such situations.
"Usually, officials walk away from those situations without going after the star player," said Casey following the game. "I heard a lot worse from their team to the officials."
"Walk away, we got to be adults in the situation, that's no excuse," Casey added. "We got to be professional and understand that the officials are not the enemy."
The ejection was the third of Lowry's career and first ever at home. His previous ejection occurred against the Kings in a loss on Feb. 6, 2014. Previous to that, Lowry's first ever ejection took place in a Feb. 13, 2013 win against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Endi
