A U.S. missile shield in Romania's Deveselu military base is technically ready as a ceremony in the Romanian Foreign Ministry on Friday marks its completion.

The Deveselu antimissile defence system will strengthen national security and that Romania's participation in this project reflects the excellent state of the relation between Bucharest and Washington, Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu told the ceremony.(Romania-US-Missile Shield)

BRATISLAVA -- Police investigator has launched a criminal prosecution over the suspicion of negligent homicide, as three children lost their lives in a fire close to the village of Sacurov in eastern Slovakia, local news agency TASR reported on Friday.

The fire broke out on Thursday at a local Roma settlement, when one of the dwellings went up in flames shortly after 5:30 p.m. local time.(Slovakia-Fire-Children)

MOSCOW -- Russia has begun decoding the flight recorder of the Su-24 jet that was downed by Turkey near the Syrian-Turkish border, with the first set of data expected to be released on Monday, the country's Defense Ministry said Friday.

An F-16 fighter of the Turkish Air Force shot down the Su-24 on Nov. 24 for allegedly violating Turkish air space. Russia claimed the jet did not cross into Turkey.(Russia-Turkey-Warplane)

DAMASCUS -- At least 34 people were killed over the past 24 hours in the Syrian provinces of al-Raqqa and Aleppo by air strikes believed to be Russian, a monitor group reported Friday.

The air strikes targeted areas controlled by the Islamic State (IS) group in Aleppo and al-Raqqa, the de facto capital of the IS, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.(Syria-IS-Air Strikes)

ANKARA -- A total of 54 rebels of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) were killed in three-day military operations in southeastern Turkey, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported on Friday.
