A U.S. missile shield in Romania's Deveselu military base is technically ready as a ceremony in the Romanian Foreign Ministry on Friday marks its completion.

BRATISLAVA -- Police investigator has launched a criminal prosecution over the suspicion of negligent homicide, as three children lost their lives in a fire close to the village of Sacurov in eastern Slovakia, local news agency TASR reported on Friday.

MOSCOW -- Russia has begun decoding the flight recorder of the Su-24 jet that was downed by Turkey near the Syrian-Turkish border, with the first set of data expected to be released on Monday, the country's Defense Ministry said Friday.

DAMASCUS -- At least 34 people were killed over the past 24 hours in the Syrian provinces of al-Raqqa and Aleppo by air strikes believed to be Russian, a monitor group reported Friday.

ANKARA -- A total of 54 rebels of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) were killed in three-day military operations in southeastern Turkey, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported on Friday.
