Xinhua, December 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

The British unemployment rate went down to 5.2 percent in the three months to October, the lowest in nearly 10 years, according to information released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Wednesday.

There were 1.71 million unemployed people (people not in work but seeking and available for work), 110,000 fewer than the May to July 2015 period and 244,000 fewer than the August to October 2014 period, according to ONS.

The unemployment rate has not been lower since the three months to January 2006.

The number of people in work increased by 207,000 to 31.3 million between August and October.

The employment rate (the proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 who were in work) was 73.9 percent, the highest since comparable records began in 1971. Endit
