Son of former Gambian president faces charge

The son of former Gambian president Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, Ebrima Jawara, was charged with malicious injuries in general at the Banjul Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Ebrima Jawara, former project coordinator of the Rural Finance Project of the Ministry of Agriculture, was accused of unlawfully changing the locker of the project coordinator's office at the Central Project Coordinating Unit (CPCU) office at the Ministry of Agriculture in Banjul on Nov. 24, 2015, the police said Tuesday.

His defense counsel Momodou Musa Drammeh said the offense was bailable and told the court that it was a misdemeanor.

In the ruling, Magistrate Omar Jabang granted Jawara bail of D50,000 (1275.6 U.S. dollars) with two Gambian sureties. Enditem
