Tokyo stocks rise sharply in morning as overseas equities' gains lift mood

Xinhua, December 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks surged Wednesday morning as U.S. shares rising overnight following a rise in crude oil prices sent overseas bourses higher and spurred investors here to recoup Tuesday's losses.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average leapt 395.93 points, or 2.13 percent, from Tuesday to end the morning at 18,961.83, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange surged 33.42 points, or 2.22 percent, to 1,535.97.

Notable advancers by the break were led by securities, information and communication and insurance-linked shares. Enditem
