1st LD Writethru: Teacher stabbed by possible IS militant in northern Paris

Xinhua, December 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

A man who said he belonged to the Islamic State (IS) group stabbed a teacher early Monday at a kindergarten in a northern suburb of Paris, a local newspaper reported.

The suspect, wearing a mask and a white shirt, might have stabbed the teacher several times in the throat, Le Figaro said.

According to the teacher, whose life is not in danger now, the perpetrator shouted "It's Daech; it is a warning" while attacking him at the kindergarten in Aubervilliers. Daesh is an Arabic acronym used commonly in France to refer to the IS.

The anti-terrorism section of the prosecutor's office has taken over the investigation, said the report, adding that the suspect is at large.

In the November edition of its French-language magazine Dar al-Islam, the IS called for its followers to kill teachers in the French education system, describing them as "enemies of Allah."

"The terrorist threat is real and permanent and all public places must be protected, especially schools," French Education Minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem said in a recent interview.

The stabbing occurred a month after attacks claimed by the IS struck the French capital, killing 130 people and injuring over 350 others. Endi
