India says Pakistan will speed up Mumbai terror attacks case

Xinhua, December 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

India said Monday that Pakistan has assured it to expedite the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks case that is being heard in an anti-terror court in Islamabad.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told the Parliament that during her recent talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Shari and Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad, the "two sides condemned terrorism and resolved to cooperate to eliminate this menace".

"There we dwelt on the need for Pakistan to expedite the Mumbai terrorist attacks trial. The Indian side was assured of the steps being taken to expedite its early conclusion," Swaraj said while briefing the Lower House of Parliament on the visit to Pakistan last week.

"Soon comprehensive bilateral dialogue with Pakistan will take place. The process will explore cooperation in trade and connectivity, people-to-people exchanges and humanitarian issues. We hope it will mark a new beginning also for peace and development in the whole region," she said.

The Indian external affairs minister's statement was drowned by the opposition parties in the Upper House of Parliament earlier in the day. Endit
