The penultimate version of Paris outcome presented to negotiators

Xinhua, December 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The penultimate version of text for the global climate change agreement was presented Thursday night by French Foreign Minister and president of the COP21 Laurent Fabius to negotiators from the 196 Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

This version, with only about 50 brackets left, runs to 27 pages, 2 pages shorter than the first version proposed on Wednesday with 29 pages.

"The text has cut off several options but still leaves some crucial points between brackets which are the most complex," Fabius said, referring to differentiation, finance and ambition.

During the 5th meeting of Paris Committee, Fabius stressed that "what matters from now on is to reach convergences".

"Transparency and efficiency are essential at this stage," he added.

"On the basis of the progress accomplished, I think I will be able to present to Paris Committee my proposition for the final text," Fabius concluded.

Fabius wished the parties to reach the final agreement by Dec. 11. Endit
