Three refugees expected to qualify for 2016 Olympic

Xinhua, December 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Three refugee athletes who have fled their homes are expected to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Wednesday.

Three refugees identified are a swimmer from Syria now in Germany, a Congolese judoka in Brazil and an Iranian taekwando fighter in

Belgium, said Pere Miro, the deputy director general for relations at the IOC.

Working with aid agencies, the IOC created a 2-million-U.S. dollar fund in September to help refugees with 17 national Olympic committees involved.

The IOC would be ready to help their preparation, Pere Miro added. Endi
