Swansea City sack manager Monk

Xinhua, December 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

English Premier League side Swansea City have sacked manager Garry Monk after leading the Welsh team to one win in 11 league games, the club announced on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old, who replaced Dutchman Michael Laudrup in February 2014, joined the club 11 years ago as a defender.

They were beaten by Leicester City 3-0 at home on Saturday, which left them on the 15th of the table.

"The decision has been made very reluctantly and with a heavy heart," chairman Huw Jenkins said.

He added in a club statement: "To find ourselves in our current situation from where we were in the first week of September, and considering the drop of performance levels and run of results over the last three months, it has brought us to this unfortunate decision."

"We hope to appoint a replacement as soon as possible."

Monk led Swans to a historic eighth finish last season. Endit
