2 Israelis wounded in West Bank shooting attack

Xinhua, December 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two Israelis were wounded in a shooting attack in the West Bank on Wednesday evening, the Israeli army said.

The incident took place in the northwestern West Bank territories. The Israelis were riding in a car on a road near the Jewish settlement of Avnei Hefetz, not far from the Palestinian city of Tulkarem, when shots were fired at their vehicle, An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said in a statement.

The vehicle from which the shots were fired managed to escape the scene, and Israeli security forces are canvassing the area in search for the perpetrators.

This is the second attack to take place throughout Wednesday in the West Bank.

Earlier in the day, a knife-wielding Palestinian stabbed two Israelis in the West Bank city of Hebron, wounding one moderately and another lightly. The assailant was shot dead by Israeli soldiers at the scene, according to the Israeli police and military.

These attacks are the latest in an ongoing wave of violence that started in October.

Nineteen Israelis and one U.S. national have been killed in stabbing, shooting and vehicular attacks during this time. Meanwhile, more than 110 Palestinians were killed, some in clashes with Israeli security forces, while others were gunned down when allegedly committing attacks.

The violence was sparked by strife over the al-Aqsa Mosque in east Jerusalem, a flashpoint site holy to both Jewish and Muslim worshippers, and spread into full-blown violence throughout the country. Endit
