Xinhua, December 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The death toll of H1N1 outbreak in Iran has reached 36, Iran's deputy Health Minister Ali Akbar Sayyari was quoted as saying by state IRIB TV on Wednesday.

Out of 36 people killed, 30 were in Iran's central Kerman province and six were in the country's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan provinces, Sayyari said.

On Monday, he said four pregnant women were among the dead in Sistan and Baluchestan provinces.

The minister cautioned the people of the spread of disease, saying that "the Health Ministry predicts that the disease will spread across the country in the coming days."

No death report is available from the flu in the capital Tehran, he said on Wednesday.

Also, local media reported on Wednesay that the respiratory masks have almost been sold out in Kerman as well as in Sistan and Baluchestan provinces, and people provide them from the black market.

Last year, the flu claimed 86 lives in the country.

Influenza A (H1N1) virus is the subtype of influenza A virus. In June 2009, the World Health Organization declared the new strain of swine-origin H1N1 as a pandemic.

This strain is often called swine flu by the public media. This novel virus spread worldwide and had caused about 17,000 deaths since the start of 2010. Endit
