Finnish PM voices concerns over hard attitudes towards asylum seekers

Xinhua, December 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila expressed his concerns over hard attitudes towards asylum seekers on Sunday, the Independence Day of Finland.

"I have been concerned about the hard stances that some Finns take towards asylum seekers," Sipila was quoted by the Finnish national broadcaster Yle as saying at a multicultural celebration event.

He stressed that "caring others" is the hard core of the Finnish culture, for which all people should defense together.

The prime minister called on Finns and the immigrants living in Finland to help newcomers to integrate into the Finnish society, for example, telling them about the Finnish culture, guiding them to take up various hobbies and community activities, supporting them in everyday life and so on.

He emphasized that any aggressive and even criminal acts should be condemned and judged, whatever background the offenders are from. Endit
