Former Peru football federation president Manuel Burga has been arrested in Lima as part of a US probe into corruption in football, authorities said on Saturday.
The 58-year-old was among 16 people charged by the US justice department on Thursday for accepting bribes for deals involving media and marketing rights.
Burga, Peru's football federation chief from 2002 to 2014, denied the allegations as police detained him outside his home.
"I'm helping police with their enquiries, I'd been waiting for them... They'd already informed me that I would receive an arrest warrant," Burga told reporters.
"I reiterate that I'm innocent. I haven't received any bungs or bribes," he added.
Police said they were acting on a request from US authorities.
Meanwhile, prosecutors in Guatemala said they issued an arrest warrant for football federation president Brayan Jimenez, ahead of a possible extradition.
