Obama, Cameron discuss efforts against Islamic State

Xinhua, December 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday spoke with British Prime Minister David Cameron, discussing the fight against the Islamic State (IS) the terrorist group, the White House said.

Obama "welcomed the outcome of the vote and expressed his appreciation" that the United Kingdom has joined the counter-IS campaign in Syria, said the White House in a press release.

Britain's House of Commons on Wednesday voted to support a government motion on extending British airstrikes against IS in Syria.

"The leaders discussed further steps that can be taken to degrade and destroy ISIL (another acronym for IS)," said the White House, adding they noted that all countries are welcome to join the existing fighting-IS coalition, "if their political and military objectives in Syria are consistent with those of the coalition."

Obama also accepted Cameron's condolences for the loss of life in Wednesday's San Bernardino shootings in California, the White House said. Endit
