Cup and Clasico likely to complicate the atmosphere as Real Madrid face Getafe

Xinhua, December 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez faces an injury crisis ahead of his side's home game against local rivals Getafe on Saturday afternoon.

Real Madrid go into the game with problems in defense due to the injuries suffered by Sergio Ramos, Rafael Varene, Dani Carvajal and Marcelo.

That leaves Benitez with just the bare bones and he will presumably resolve the issue by playing Alvaro Arbeloa at left back, Danilo on the right and partnering Nacho Fernandez with Pepe in central defense, while drafting b-team defender, Marcos Llorente, who played in the King's Cup against Cadiz in midweek also drafted into the squad.

Isco, who scored twice in Cadiz is also out as he sees out the second game of a two-match ban for a wild kick at Neymar in the Clasico a fortnight ago.

That game in Cadiz is bound to loom dark on the horizon after it was revealed that Real Madrid failed Denis Cheryshev, who was ineligible through suspension in the game.

That error and its possible consequences will almost certainly affect the atmosphere for the game, which is also Real Madrid's first home game since their 4-0 humiliation to FC Barcelona in 'El Clasico' two weeks ago and despite recent results, both Benitez and club President, Florentino Perez can expect a rough ride from home fans.

"As we are the best club in the world every detail gets more attention, but I know what the road is," said Benitez. "It is to continue working. I have made errors, but I am convinced we have a great side and can do something important," he continued.

There will also be attention on how many minutes James Rodriguez plays as the press has pointed to a breakdown in his relationship with the coach.

Meanwhile Getafe make the five mile trip to the capital after a good win against Villarreal last weekend, which was followed by a Cup defeat to Rayo Vallecano as coach Fran Escriba rested key players. Endit
