Tokyo shares end sharply lower by break on ECB decision

Tokyo shares ended the morning session sharply lower on Friday as investors here were disappointed by the European Central Bank's latest stimulus measures which failed to meet market expectations.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 383.40 points, or 1.92 percent, from Thursday to 19,556.50.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange plunged 27.72 points, or 1.73 percent, to 1,575.22. Endit
