2 FIFA officials arrested in corruption scandal (updated)

Xinhua, December 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two FIFA top officials were arrested on suspicion of accepting millions of dollars in bribes, confirmed by the Swiss government on Thursday.

The police caught Juan Angel Napout and Alfredo Hawit in early morning raids at the Baur au Lac hotel in Zurich.

Napout, from Paraguay, is the president of South American Football Confederation and Hawit, from Honduras, heads the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football.

The bribes were related to selling marketing rights in connection with football tournaments, according to the Swiss justice ministry.

Earlier this year, more high-ranking FIFA officials were also arrested in this hotel on May 27, which set off the FIFA corruption crisis. Endi
