Roundup: Hong Kong stocks close 0.28 pct lower

Hong Kong stocks fell 62.68 points, or 0.28 percent, to close on Thursday at 22,417.01.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,327.04 and 22,485.25. Turnover totaled 66.49 billion HK dollars (about 8.55 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index moved down 62.52 points, or 0.62 percent, to close at 9,987.84 points.

Four sub-indices all lost ground, with the Propertie sub-index falling the most by 0.70 percent, followed by the Utilities 0.54 percent, the Finance 0.31 percent and the Commerce and Industry 0.09 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, fell 0.48 percent to 62.55 HK dollars.

Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, slid 1.1 percent to close at 27.75 HK dollars.

Local bourse operator HKEX rose 0.1 percent to 206.80 HK dollars.

China Mobile, China's dominant mobile carrier, went down 0.6 percent to 90.10 HK dollars. China Unicom, another Chinese telecom giant, retreated 1.7 percent to 9.51 HK dollars.

Sun Hung Kai, one of Hong Kong's largest property developer by market value, closed down 0.9 percent to 97.10 HK dollars. Henderson Land ended 2.0 percent lower at 48.00 HK dollars.

Mainland-based financial stocks ended mixed. Bank of China went down 0.3 percent to 3.51 HK dollars. China Construction Bank closed flat at 5.40 HK dollars. ICBC closed down 0.4 percent to 4.73 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec moved down 1.6 percent to 4.82 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, retreated 0.5 percent to 5.67 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals to 7.75 HK dollars) Endit
