European integrations to benefit Serbia's economy: Kerry

The United States supports Serbia in the country's European integration process, visiting U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic here on Wednesday.

Kerry arrived in Belgrade from a brief visit to Pristina on Wednesday evening in order to participate in the 22nd OSCE Ministerial Council which will take place from Dec. 3 to 4, and was welcomed by Vucic at his residency in Serbian capital.

In the brief remarks after which the meeting was closed for media, Kerry and Vucic exchanged views on Serbia's role in the region, Brussels dialogue between authorities in Belgrade and Pristina, the migrant crisis and the emerging threat of terrorism.

Kerry congratulated Vucic for leading Serbia towards the EU, pledging full support of the United States to that process and announcing new ways of developing partner cooperation between the two countries.

"You are moving towards the EU as fast as possible, which we fully support," Kerry said at the beginning of the meeting with Vucic, adding that European integrations are good for the country's economy, citizens and achieving prosperity.

Kerry briefly touched the topic of terrorism, explaining that the United States have a common interest with all countries of the region to jointly answer to the challenge of violent terrorism which is in increase in Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere.

Vucic thanked Kerry for the support on Serbia's path to the EU membership, as well as for the development of bilateral relations.

He said that Serbia's mission is to maintain stability, security and economic progress of the country and the region, which Vucic stressed as a key condition for the development of this part of Europe. Endit
