Germany's benchmark DAX index closes down

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Tuesday closed down by 120.99 points at 11,270.5 points.

The slump of the blue-chip DAX index was mainly triggered by heavy losses of Linde AG, an industrial gas company, according to local analysts. The DAX index declined by 1.06 percent.

The utilities company RWE topped the list of risers with substantial gains. It added 16.57 percent. The sport company adidas rose by 1.44 percent. Lufthansa climbed by 1.22 percent. Vonovia, a residential real estate company, advanced by 0.89 percent. Deutsche Bank went up by 0.64 percent.

Linde slumped by 14.34 percent. K+S, a supplier of standard and specialty fertilizers, slipped by 4.14 percent. BASF lost 2 percent. Deutsche Post slid by 1.97 percent and ThyssenKrupp went down by 1.89 percent.

Linde was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 627.84 million euros (around 666 million U.S. dollars). Endit
