Bulgarian customs find 10.7 kg of heroin in child's pillow

Xinhua, December 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bulgarian customs officers at the country's Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint near the border with Turkey have seized 10.748 kg of heroin hidden in a child's pillow, officials said here on Tuesday.

According to the National Customs Agency (NCA), the officers found the illicit drug in a car, in which from Turkey through Bulgaria to Romania traveled a family with their six-year-old child.

The heroin, split into 20 packets, was hidden in a pillow on which the child was sleeping, NCA said.

Authorities estimated the value of the heroin on the black market would exceed 540,000 U.S. dollars.

The driver of the vehicle, a Turkish citizen, was arrested on the scene.

The Balkan country, a key transit route for drugs smuggled from Asia to Europe, has seized more than one tonne of heroin in 2014. Endit
