Roundup: Afghan violent incidents claim 13 lives in 24 hours

Afghan conflicts and violent incidents have led to the deaths of 13 people, including three innocent children, over the past 24 hours, officials said Tuesday.
In the latest violent incident, three innocent children lost their lives as an explosive device went off in the northern Baghlan province, an official said.
"A group of children who were playing on a field today, found a toy-like explosive device which had been left over from the past wars in a village in Dahana-i-Ghori district south of provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri city in the morning. The device went off and the blast claimed three lives on the sport and injured 15 more children," a district police official told Xinhua.
All the victims have been taken to a hospital in Pul-e-Khumri where some of the injured are in critical conditions, the official added.
Meanwhile, Afghan security forces in operations against Taliban militants in Sangcharak district of the northern Saripul province have killed two Taliban militants including a shadowy district governor, the Interior Ministry said in a statement released here Tuesday.
The security forces, according to the statement, targeted Taliban hideout in Damarda village of Sangcharak district late Monday night, killing two insurgents, including Mawlawi Baz Mohammad, the shadowy district governor of Taliban outfit in Sangcharak district.
Similarly, the Interior Ministry in a separate statement released here Tuesday said that units of police backed by the army have killed eight Taliban militants during series of operations conducted in different provinces over the past 24 hours.
During the operations which covered parts of Nangarhar, Laghman, Parwan, Takhar, Kunduz and Faryab provinces, another six insurgents were injured and six others arrested, the statement asserted.
The statement didn't say if there were casualties on security personnel. Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
Security forces also identified and arrested a would-be suicide bomber in Pul-e-Khurmi, the capital of northern Baghlan province on Tuesday, a local official said.
Moreover, clashes between security forces and Taliban militants have been continuing in Khawja Bahawdin and Darqad districts of the northern Takhar province over the past couple of days, as both sides attempt to consolidate positions. Endit
