India's Congress party chief is in U.S. for health check-up

India's main opposition Congress party Monday said its chief Sonia Gandhi has gone to the United States to undergo a routine health check-up.

"She has gone to the U.S. for a regular, routine check-up. She will return after a week," Congress party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told the media in the national capital.

There has been much speculation in India about 68-year-old Gandhi's health when she suddenly left the country for a surgery in America some four years back.

So far, the Congress party and the Indian government have not disclosed anything about the medical condition of Gandhi. Endit
