Cleanup operations kill insurgents in Afghanistan: ministry

Xinhua, November 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Several insurgents have been killed and injured during cleanup operations since early Sunday, the country's Defense Ministry said on Monday.

"Several terrorists were killed and injured as a result of joint cleanup operations conducted by army, police and intelligence agency personnel across the country over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement, without disclosing the exact number of casualties.

The security forces also found and seized weapons, in addition to defusing dozens of roadside bombs and landmines, the statement said, adding that the raids were lunched in Nangarhar, Ghazni, Kandahar, Kunduz and Faryab provinces.

The statement also confirmed that eight army personnel lost their lives as a result of enemies' heavy weapons firing and landmine attacks throughout the country in the same period.

The Taliban, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments. Endit
