A total of 23 were killed on Friday in a suicide bomb attack and a U.S.-led coalition air strike against militants of the Islamic State (IS) group in Iraq's western province, a provincial security source said.
In early hours of the day, a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden military truck into an army position in Jubba area, some 200 km northwest of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, and blew it up, leaving 17 soldiers killed, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Separately, an international aircraft carried out an air strike on a car bomb factory in the south of IS-held city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad, destroying the factory and killing six militants and wounding five others, the source said.
The military operations in Anbar province came as Iraqi security forces and allied militias have been fighting for months to retake control of key cities and towns in Iraq's largest province from the extremist IS militants, which seized most of Anbar and tried to advance toward Baghdad. Enditem
