Popular Chinese singer busted for drugs

Beijing police detained popular Chinese pop singer Mao Ning on suspicion of drug offense early Friday morning.

According to the police, they caught Mao, 47, in an apartment of Chaoyang District.

Mao confessed to using crystal meth. His urine also tested positive for drugs.

Further investigation is under way.

In recent years, a number of Chinese actors and singers have been embroiled in drug scandals, shedding light on the rampant drug abuse in the entertainment sector.

In November, singer Yin Xiangjie was arrested for drugs offenses for the second time in Beijing. In March, Beijing police detained Chinese actor Wang Xuebing, star of last year's Golden Bear winning film, for suspected drug offense. Endi
