3 Afghan police injured in bomb attack

About three police personnel have been wounded in a bomb attack in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz, the provincial government spokesman said on Friday.

"A sticky bomb attached to a vehicle went off in Madrasa-e-Kheyaban locality of provincial capital Kunduz city Thursday night. The blast caused three Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel aboard the vehicle wounded," spokesman Abdul Waseh Basil told Xinhua.

The provincial police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The injured were shifted to a hospital with two of the injured suffering from serious wounds, the official added, while blaming the Taliban militant group for the attack.

The government established the ALP, or community police, in 2010 to protect villages and districts around the country where army and police have limited presence.

The Taliban militant group, which ruled the country before they were ousted in late 2001, renewed armed insurgency, staging ambushes and suicide attacks, killing combatants as well as civilians.

The Afghan security forces' casualties have risen recently as they have assumed the full security charges from NATO and U.S. forces since January this year. Endit
