Caroline Wozniacki beat Serena Williams at exhibition match in Denmark

Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki beat American tennis star Serena Williams in straight sets at the Energi Danmark Champions Battle 2015 exhibition match in Herning, Denmark on Thursday.

It is Wozniacki's second victory over Williams as she once defeated the world No.1 at the Miami Masters in 2012.

The 25-year-old Danish player set a high-tempo from the start and raced to 2-0 in the first set. Though Williams put up some resistance to draw 2-2, a number of unprovoked errors let Wozniacki go ahead 4-2 and win the first set 6-3.

The second set was a tight affair, where score went point for point. The 21-time Grand Slam champion took the lead 2-0, but Wozniacki fought back immediately and tied 3-3. The Scandinavian star then was clearly in better shape, winning the set 6-4.

Wozniacki, who had held the world number one position throughout 2011, is now ranked 17th on 2,641 points at the WTA, while Williams ranks first on 9,945 points.

Williams in October announced her withdrawal from her last two scheduled tournaments of the 2015 season to heal from a series of injuries.

Williams is expected to get back on the court during the off-season. At the Australian Open in January she will be going for her 22nd Grand Slam title.  Endi
