Morocco dismantles 3-member IS cell

Xinhua, November 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Moroccan police dismantled on Thursday a three-member terrorist cell that supported the Islamic State (IS) group, the Interior Ministry said.

The cell was fully committed to implementing IS subversive agenda and planned to carry out dangerous terror attacks, the ministry said in a statement.

Citing security source, local reports said investigations revealed that one of the terrorists was planning to blow herself up and had links with jihadists in Libya.

The group was plotting attacks against security forces buildings, and taking tourists as hostages and asking for the release of jihadists prisoners in return, the reports added.

The operation came as part of Morocco's proactive efforts to confront terrorists threats.

Last week, local media reported that Morocco has carried out "precautionary arrests" amid concerns over potential attacks by the IS members, after the country helped France hunt down Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the alleged mastermind of the recent Paris attacks in which at least 129 people were killed.
