1st LD Writethru: Brussels lowers terror alert level

Xinhua, November 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Belgium has decided to lower the alert level of terrorist threat from its highest level of four to three for its capital Brussels, local television reported on Thursday.

The alert level for the whole country is now placed on level three, which means that the threat is "possible and probable."

The terror alert level in Brussels was lifted to "maximum" on the night of November 20, after the Brussels authorities were informed of possible attacks similar to those in Paris on November 13, in which 130 people were killed, according to Belgian government authorities.

A level four alert level means the terror threat is "serious and imminent".

Since last weekend, police have been searching extensively in Brussels and other Belgian cities for terrorist suspects. 21 people were arrested. The Belgian judicial authority has charged two of them with "participating in a terrorist group." Enditem
